Setting up & authenticating your sending domain

DMARC, DKIM and SPF are used to authenticate email addresses to help prevent spammers, phishers and other parties from sending emails on behalf of a domain that they shouldn't have access to.

SPF specifies which mail servers are authorized to send emails on behalf of your domain, preventing spammers from impersonating your domain.

DKIM adds a layer of security by digitally signing your emails, verifying their authenticity and integrity. Both SPF and DKIM contribute to your emails being trusted by email service providers and recipients, reducing the chances of them being flagged as spam.

DMARC allows domain owners to specify how email receivers should handle emails that fail SPF and DKIM checks. It enables the domain owner to set policies that determine whether to reject, quarantine, or allow emails that don't pass authentication.

How to setup & manage your sending domain

Login to your MyGuestlist account, navigate to the Email section and click on "Manage Sending Domains" (located in the orange menu).

This will popup a page to allow you to manage your domains

Click on "+ Add New Domain" and specify the domain name and your email address. The email address must be using the same domain (ie: if you are setting up myvenue.com, your email must end in @myvenue.com).

After adding your domain, click on the "View Setup Instructions" button to retrieve a list of updates that must be made to complete the authentication of your domain.

These updates need to be made in your domain host's backend portal. Your domain host is the company that you have used to register & renew your domain name (eg: GoDaddy, NameCheap,  CrazyDomains etc...).
Within their backend, locate a page to allow you to manage/update the DNS of your domain and make the updates required. If you aren't sure what you are doing, we recommend reaching out to the support team of your domain provider to assist.

Once updates have been made to the DNS of your domain, click the "Test DNS" button to verify. The "Ready to use?" column will let you know once that domain has been successfully authenticated. DNS changes aren't always instant. So, once updates have been made to your domain, wait a few hours before using the "Test DNS" button to verify.

Who is my domain host / registar?

If you don't know who your domain host is, navigate to https://dnsimple.com/whois, enter your domain name and click on "Check Domain". In the results, the domain host's website will be listed under the "Registrar URL" value.

Another way to check is to navigate to this website, enter your domain name and click "DNS Lookup". In the results, look for "Your DNS hosting provider is" - this will tell you which company is currently managing your domain and where you'll need to make the changes.
